Changing direction: Wellness Pointe relieves CEO of his duties

Wellness Pointe Board of Directors decided on Tuesday to relieve Carl Walters II of his duties as the organization's chief executive officer. The Board called him in at 2:00 p.m. and gave him the news that they have elected to end his management contract of 5 years. Walters assumed his position as the organization's chief in March 12, 2012. According to Jim Kendrick chief executive officer for Longview Regional Medical Center (LRMC), Wellness Pointe has reached out them. LRMC will help Wellness Pointe to stabilize the organization while searching for someone who will be there long term.

To boot, Walters was caught totally off guard.

“It was definitely a surprise,” he said. “I have gone beyond the call of duty to share with the board all that was going on in the organization. I was not released for job performance.” Deena Shelton Wellness Pointe board president said, “Wellness Pointe is moving in a different direction. We wish Carl Walters well.”

Wellness Pointe is a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) and a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. The system provides  medical and social programs that supports and benefits local families in Longview, Tyler, Kilgore, Gilmer and other surrounding areas in the region.
