“This is an incredibly important process because we are asking residents to tell us what they would like their community to be in 20 years. Together we can accomplish amazing things, but we need to hear from residents to know what they view as issues and opportunities in Longview.” Mayor Jay Dean
This is the time to contribute to what you want our great city of Longview to be twenty years from now. This is not a Town Hall meeting or a lecture. It is a interactive discussion about the future of Longview. Therefore, the City of Longview is asking residents to dream big for the future of their community as part of the Longview Comprehensive Plan.
Longview-area residents are encouraged to give their input through an online survey and a special Comprehensive Plan community event from 5:30 – 7:00 p.m., February 10, 2014, at the LeTourneau University Belcher Center, 2100 Mobberly Ave.
The event will include several future-planning activities and interactive discussions on a variety of community topics. Furthermore, hors d’oeuvres will be served. After the discussions, participants will receive a free ticket to the East Texas Symphonic Band’s Grand Winter Celebration Concert that evening at 7:30 pm.
The Longview Comprehensive Plan is a long-term planning effort which will serve as the city’s guiding document for growth and development for years to come. The effort will incorporate topics such as parks, land use, transportation, utilities, development standards, population projections, economic development, and public safety. The City Council has appointed a task force of members from throughout the Longview area to lead the process as the Comprehensive Plan Advisory Committee. Keith Honey is serving as chair of the committee.
According to Mayor Jay Dean, “This is an incredibly important process because we are asking residents to tell us what they would like their community to be in 20 years. Together we can accomplish amazing things, but we need to hear from residents to know what they view as issues and opportunities in Longview.”
In addition to the survey and February 10 event, residents can get involved by hosting discussions in their organizations or neighborhoods. For more information about the Longview Comprehensive Plan, please visit LongviewTexas.gov/plan or contact the City Manager’s Office at
