Gallery Main Street is accepting entries into the jury process for its upcoming “Color and Texture: A Fiber Arts Exhibit” until Friday, February 7.
“Color and Texture” will be the second juried exhibit of 2014 for the gallery.
The Gallery is managed by the City of Tyler Main Street Department in cooperation with the volunteers of the Downtown Tyler Arts Coalition and Heart of Tyler, Inc.
The exhibit prospectus explains fiber art as “…all traditional fiber techniques such as spinning, weaving, embroidery, quilting, sewing, dyeing and others, as well as traditional techniques with non-traditional materials such as weaving wire or metal, fabric collage and three-dimensional sculptures.”
“We encourage artists to carefully read the entry guidelines, which are available at http://www.cityoftyler.org/Departments/MainStreet/GalleryMainStreet.aspx,” said Main Street Department Leader Beverly Abell. “Even those who have entered many other Gallery Main Street exhibits will need to study the guidelines, as they are slightly different for this show,” she added.
The fiber arts exhibit is a collaborative project with the East Texas Fiber Artists group. In addition to the monetary award for Best in Show that is given by Gallery Main Street, the fiber artists will present merit award certificates.
The entry fee for this exhibit is $30, which qualifies an artist to submit up to four pieces for consideration by the jury. Additional entries up to a total of 10 are possible for $5 each.
Artists will be notified whether or not their submissions were accepted for exhibit by February 28. Selected works must be dropped off at the gallery on March 12. Take-down will be on May 6.
An opening reception for the “Color and Texture” exhibit is set for Saturday, March 15 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. The event will include music, refreshments and an opportunity to meet the artists. As always, the reception is free and open to the public. Those who want more information should go to www.DowntownTylerArts.com or call Gallery Main Street at (903) 593-6905.
