Deals along the buy-way

U.S. Highway 80 is a historic aspect of East Texas.  The stretch from Mississippi to Mesquite is an interstate tradition linking much of the country in commerce. In recent years it has become a literal monument to capitalism as a flea market-like atmosphere has developed.  Attracting money-spending tourists (who will also gather great bargains) is now an annual autumn attraction.  Located along the thoroughfare at irregular intervals the various sales opportunities will hawk their wares October 14 through 16.
Highway 80 is the nation’s first coast-to-coast all-weather trace, stretching 2400 miles from Savannah, Georgia to San Diego, and is a resource to be exploited for more than transportation.  East Texas Tourism Executive Director Mary Ramos makes clear the trade fair is a boon for more than just merchandise sellers.
“We had numerous calls from out of state during the October sale from people looking for the best place to start shopping,” she said.  “They were looking for hotels or RV parks along the way.”
The highway’s countless pockets of sales opportunities are also a great chance for churches and civic organizations to raise funds.  The road sales route is part of East Texas Tourism’s 21-year campaign to attract business for the region’s byways and businesses.  Each city along the highway will conduct its own program to draw in travellers and raise money for the municipalities and their residents.  Salespeople are provided with packages that contain posters, sales signs and general information.  Other attractions also abound.
The weekend will see numerous shows displaying customized and antique cars, trucks and motorcycles held by local car and RV clubs.  Those drawn to these exhibits will also be a great source of income for operators of motels, beds and breakfasts, restaurants and historic sites.
East Texas Tourism is headquartered at 421 North Center, Suite A, Longview, 75601.  For further information on the highway sales extravaganza and the resources affiliated with it or to be a vendor check out www.EastTexasGuide.com and www.us80sale.com.  These websites can also be used to send in information on car, motorcycle and RV displays to be held during the weekend.
