As part of the FitCity Challenge, the community-wide campaign to promote healthy, fitter lifestyles for Tyler residents, Mayor Barbara Bass will hold the next Monthly FitWalk at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 4 at Faulkner Park.
A ribbon cutting ceremony to open the recently completed Faulkner Park Mountain Bike Trail will be held directly following the walk. The ribbon cutting will be held adjacent to the lake located within the park and is easily accessible from the main entrance off of U.S. HWY 69.
The Tyler Bicycle Club will be in attendance and will host both a mountain bike ride and road bike ride after the ribbon cutting, so bring your bike and helmet! Club representatives will also be available to answer questions about membership. Club members are eager to help new riders experience the joys of bicycling in our community.
The trail is a six mile loop, rated easy, which meanders through the natural East Texas woods while crossing areas of the nature walking trail. The project was made possible through generous private contributions and primarily constructed through more than 4,000 volunteer man-hours.
The completion of the trail was made possible through the generous contributions of: Tyler Bicycle Club; East Texas Communities Foundation; Trails & Paths Committee of the Tyler Bike Club; the City of Tyler; Urology Tyler, PA; D. Allen Hossley; Hossley Embry LLP; Hibbs Hallmark & Company; Elite Bicycles; Simpson’s Fitness & Adventure Sports; Steven Cox; Parker Law Firm; The Genecov Group Inc; R.W. Fair Foundation; and Bob Faulkner.
“The Mayor’s Monthly FitWalk is designed to show residents how easy and fun it is to make fitness part of their lifestyle; the opening of this newly completed trail will offer our citizens another exciting way to stay fit,” said Mayor Barbara Bass. “I hope that many Tyler residents come out and join me to enjoy one of Tyler’s beautiful parks and to get a healthy start to their weekend.”
The Mayor’s Monthly FitWalks, which last 30-40 minutes and are planned in the early morning so you can easily fit them into your busy schedule, take place the first Saturday of each month; visit www.CityofTyler.org/News for the location of each walk.
