Local education foundation leaders receive national attention

Two area education foundation executive directors have received the top notice from the National School Public Relations Association (NSPRA) as the sole presenters at their national conference on the subject of education foundations. Larry Goddard, CFRE, executive director of Tyler ISD Foundation, and Maya Golden Thomas, executive director of the  Lindale ISD education foundation and alumni association, were selected to present at the four-day conference. The theme of the 58th annual conference, which gathers professionals in public school K-12 public relations professionals across the United States and Canada, is “Creating Confidence in Our Schools.”
The presentation by Golden-Thomas and Goddard was entitled “A Successful Education Foundation: Super Charged Confidence for Public Schools” OR “Oh, No, You Didn’t!”. The presentation which featured videos, public service announcements, board director effectiveness, fundraising techniques and ‘secrets of success’, and what mistakes all nonprofit organizations should avoid. The theme was “Friday Night Lights”, with referee uniforms, penalty flags, halftime for grant feedback and coin flip for which speaker spoke first.
“It was an honor that we were selected to present the only education-foundation related talk at this national convention,” said  Goddard. The session was well attended with more than 15 states and 2 Canadian provinces represented.
