Local resident honored as 50-year banker

The Texas bankers Association’s philanthropic arm, the Texas Bankers Foundation, recognized Longview resident Howard R. Hackney at a May 11 luncheon at the 128th Annual TBA Convention in Ft. Worth. This award is presented only to bankers with at least 50 years service in the banking industry.
Hackney commenced his dedicated career by working his way through college, toiling at summer jobs in Marshall and Dallas. After putting himself through Southern Methodist University and graduating in 1962 he took a proof operator job with Dallas’ Republic National Bank, soon becoming a management trainee. He moved along to upper management positions with banks in Houston, Sherman and Longview.
Although he retired as president of Longview’s Texas Bank and Trust in 2004, he has stayed on as a director and consultant. This year will be his last term as a member/director for Federal Home Loan Bank in Dallas.
The Texas Bankers Association is the largest and oldest bankers’ association in Texas, serving the state’s bankers since 1885.
