Owens elementary think, stretch summer learning

Fifty one kindergarten through 5th grade students from Owens Elementary School celebrated the completion of the Think & Stretch Summer Learning Program. Students who successfully completed the program received a medal and enjoyed an afternoon with bounce houses, pizza, and ice cream.
The Think & Stretch Program encouraged students to think over the summer and stretch their minds.
Participants completed reading, writing, and math lessons over eight weeks, and had the opportunity to meet with Owens Elementary School teachers once a week to seek additional assistance.
The workbook needed to complete the program cost $10 per student. The Tyler Independent School District Foundation provided funding for scholarships and materials to support the program. In addition to the workbooks, participants were also provided books written for their grade level, which further encouraged reading over the summer.
The Think & Stretch Program was offered to all Owens Elementary School students. Teachers volunteered their time on Tuesday evenings throughout the summer to provide support to the participants.
