Pine Tree ISD approves contract extension for Superintendent

   Dr. TJ Farler will continue to serve Pine Tree ISD as the schools superintendent, thanks to unanimous support Monday by school board members at a special meeting held Tuesday, January 21st.
“The board approved a three-year contract that is extended by a year after the first year served,” said Farler. Her extension will ensure that she is the district’s superintendent through August 2017. She has served the district as Superintendent since August 2011.
Under Dr. Farler’s leadership, Pine Tree ISD has seen improvements in academic achievement which include some of the following high points:

Under Dr. Farler’s leadership, Pine Tree ISD has seen improvements in academic achievement which include some of the following high points:

Continued to strengthen the Balanced Literacy program to improve literacy at grades 1, 2, 3, and 4 for all students and subgroups;

Implemented a measure for Numeracy at Grades K, 1, and 2;

Improved the student achievement as measured by the STAAR and EOC data for grade 3- 8 and EOC for all students and for subgroups.

Created a plan for implementing instructional technology tools and the professional development/support to increase the student engagement in the classrooms

Continued to focus on the improvement of the Gifted/Talented services for students and professional development for teachers;

Continued to provide enrichment learning opportunities for all students to increase learning opportunities, and

Provided an annual report of the district data (October) and formative reports using assessment data, six weeks grade data, attendance data, and finance data. View reports.

   “We are very proud of our students and staff, and the overall performance reported in the STAAR and EOC exams,” said Superintendent Farler. “Each and every one of our campuses, and the district as a whole, “Met Standard” for each of the four indexes included in the new accountability matrix. The new system includes the following indexes: #1 – All Student Achievement, #2 – Student Progress, #3 – Closing the Performance Gap among student groups, and #4 Post Secondary Readiness, which only apply to grades 9-12.”
Among the duties of the Superintendent, Dr. Farler also oversees a program of students services, tied to defined goals and objectives. Accomplishments over the past year include:

Researching the discipline data in grades 7 – 12 and based on the data, and developing a plan that will provide a safe and positive learning environment;

Continuing the implementation of the CHAMPS program in Grade Pre K – 6 with an emphasis on positive behavior; and

Continuing to lower the dropout rate and increase the graduation rate with a specific focus on subgroups.

Providing support for co-curricular and extracurricular programs (K-12) that support a well-rounded educational experience.

In October of 2012, Farler was chosen for a distinguished leadership program, which according to the Texas Association of School Administration (TASA), could help define the future of public education in the state. Farler, who was selected from 1,037 districts in Texas eligible to apply, expressed pride in being selected for the inaugural year of the program in the 2012-2013 school year.

   In partnership with district department heads, the Superintendent oversees the maintenance of a management system designed to produce ongoing efficiencies in major district operations, including transportation, food services, and building maintenance and operations. Over the past year, the Superintendent has:

Provided a semiannual updated deferred maintenance plan including a current evaluation of facilities completed internally by PTISD staff;

Completed all 2011 Bond projects under budget and on time;

Developed a plan for facility improvement beyond the 2011 Bond program;

Improved the safety/security of the campuses/facilities and continue the “drive up” and “walk in” appeal of our facilities; and

Successfully implemented the approved 2013-2014 budget that focuses funds directly to the classrooms/campuses.
