PTHS CHAMPS: Academic UIL team returns home with state awards

Students in the Pine Tree High School UIL Academic Team returned to Longview this week from the Austin State competition with accolades and awards.

The Calculator team won the First Place 4A award for state. Members of the team are Amanda Wallin, Beth Jones, Davin Siu, and Lindsey Sutton. Amanda Wallin placed 1st as an individual in Calculator and Beth Jones placed 6th as an individual.

The Number Sense team placed 2nd in state competition.

The Number Sense team members are: Ginah Han, Jaeho Han, Davin Siu, and Amanda Wallin. Jason Zhang earned 2nd place in Computer Applications, and Sarah Wood earned 5th in Headline Writing. Mathematics and Science is coached by Bonnie Edmund, Computer Applications is coached by Wendy Carter and Journalism by Susan Duncan.

“We are so proud of these students and their accomplishments,” said Principal Cindy Gabehart. “The students and their teachers devote a great amount of time and effort to reach these goals, so we are very proud that they are recognized in this way. As our students know, the benefits and rewards of competition such as this are only possible through the dedicated partnership of their teachers and parents. We are grateful to have this support in Pine Tree ISD.”
