PTISD earns Leadership Circle Award for financial transparency

Pine Tree ISD has joined the Texas Comptroller Leadership Circle Award winners for their success in implementing financial transparency.
Pine Tree ISD has earned a Gold Leadership Circle Award for setting the bar for financial transparency and opening the financial books to the public.
The Texas Comptroller’s Leadership Circle program recognizes local governments across Texas that are striving to meet a high standard for financial transparency online by providing citizens with a clear, consistent picture of spending and sharing information in a user-friendly format.
“This recognition for Pine Tree ISD makes us very proud as we strive to always be transparent with the local, state and federal funds we receive,” said Judy Downing, Director of the PTISD Business Department.
Pine Tree earned points for the district website, located at www.ptisd.org, by posting the annual budgets, annual financial reports or comprehensive annual financial reports and monthly financial board reports which include check registers.
Additional points were earned for the ease of access to documents, for a navigation tab leading readers to the requested information and for the use of charts and visual images.
“During phone conversations, they were very impressed with the amount of information we are giving our taxpayers,” said Downing. “They also commented that this is one of the better East Texas websites they have reviewed which means accolades for Vickie Echols and her design of the district web site.”
School Board President Melinda Burns said this honor is coupled with Pine Tree ISD’s recent “Superior Achievement” rating in the state’s Financial Accountability FIRST Rating System, which the district has achieved for many years in a row.
“We are extremely proud of this announcement from Texas state comptroller Susan Combs that Pine Tree ISD is now a Gold Leadership Circle Award winner for financial transparency and stewardship,” Burns said. “We salute our staff for the hard work and dedication that consistently yields sound financial leadership for the district and our taxpayers.”
The school board plans to recognize the business office staff at the April board meeting. Pine Tree is now listed with other districts of distinction on the comptroller’s “Texas Transparency” website which emphasizes the message: Open Government is Accountable Government.
