TISD students receive scholarship awards

Both Tyler ISD high schools hosted scholarship presentations to recognize the families of former Tyler ISD teachers and students for making a difference in the lives of our graduates.
The family members presented their scholarships to high school seniors from John Tyler High School and Robert E. Lee High Schools as follows:
“The Bonnie and Tab Beall Family Scholarship” in the amount of $1,000 was awarded to Dominique Guthrie.  Dominique plans to attend the University of Texas at Tyler and will major in Political Science and minor in Pre-law.
“The Todd Henry Memorial Scholarship” was awarded to three students: Marco Retana received $1,000 and plans to attend the Oberlin Conservatory; Jessica Emery received $750 and plans to attend Belmont University and will major in Classical Music; Valencia Hartfield received $500 and plans to attend North Texas University and will major in Music Education and minor in Psychology.
“The Gary Hunter Memorial Scholarship” in the amount of $300 was awarded to Valencia Hartfield.  Valencia plans to major in Music Education and minor in Psychology.
“The Joe Maland Memorial Scholarship” was awarded to two students: Kelsey Butler received $1,000 and plans to attend Texas A & M University and will major in Mathematics and minor in Kinesiology; Kievan Franklin received $1,000 and plans to attend Henderson State University and will major in Nursing.
“The Charlie J. Spradlin Memorial Scholarship” in the amount of $1,000 was awarded to Mario Arroyo.  Mario is currently attending Tyler Junior College as part of the Tech Prep program.  This scholarship will help Mario to continue his studies to earn an Associate’s Degree in Automotive Technology.
