UT Tyler announces new Director

Juan Fernando Loa has been named director of admissions at The University of Texas at Tyler, Sarah Bowdin, assistant vice president for enrollment management, announced.

A UT Tyler alumnus, Loa fills the vacancy left by Bowdin’s new appointment. He has served UT Tyler since May 2011, most recently as a graduate academic adviser for the College of Business and Technology.

“I am excited that Fernando Loa has joined our enrollment management team as director of admissions. He brings new ideas and talents complemented by a proven record of success and achievement that will help to move UT Tyler forward in meeting admissions goals,” Bowdin said.

As UT Tyler director of admissions, Loa will oversee undergraduate admission processes for the university.

Prior to serving as an academic adviser for the college, he was the UT Tyler Enrollment Services Center’s special programs manager and a UT Tyler graduate advising assistant.

“It is a privilege to be working with the enrollment management team once again, and it is an exciting time to be serving as the director of admissions, with the recent purchase of a student housing facility, breaking ground on a new pharmacy college and many other new developments,” Loa said. “I am so proud to be a part of a campus that fosters such a culture of excellence and innovation. I look forward to contributing to the betterment of the university.”

Loa holds a bachelor of business administration in management information systems from Baylor University and master of business administration from UT Tyler.

One of the 15 campuses of the UT System, UT Tyler features excellence in teaching, research, artistic performance and community service. More than 80 undergraduate and graduate degrees are available at UT Tyler, which has an enrollment of more than 7,500 high-ability students. UTTyler offers courses at its campuses in Tyler, Longview and Palestine as well as a location in Houston.
