Tyler ISD Bonner Elementary School third grader Samuel Davila was speechless when he recently found out he won third place in the K-3 grade category in the annual Creative Student Art Contest sponsored by Royal Brush Manufacturing, Inc.
With help from Mr. George Brigman, art teacher and Bonner’s Teacher of the Year, Samuel submitted his still life painting of a group of dinosaurs to the contest.
“I am so proud of Samuel,” Mr. Brigman said. “His artwork shows a great deal of perspective, and his use of color and line is outstanding. He is a very talented artist.”
Each student was allowed to submit one 11-inch by 14-inch painting that was judged on originality, color usage and creativity. The winners from each grade category were announced at the 2012 National Art Education Association Convention in New York.
In a letter from Royal Brush Manufacturing, Inc., Educational Director Nina Wright said, “Samuel’s attention to detail and interesting color choices really impressed the judges.”
As a third place winner, Samuel received a plaque, $50 cash, $50 to spend on art supplies and $250 in art supplies for his school. Mr. Brigman plans to use the money to buy new paint brushes for students.
