SPECIAL ENOUGH

GOD’S WORD: “See what love the Father has given us that we may be called the children of God. And we are!” – 1 John 3:1
Don’t we all want people, especially our loved ones, to treat us better than the average Joe? It’s almost as if we feel we’re entitled to it. At times in my life, I’ve put this quest for recognition from friends and family above all other things; trying to manipulate others into seeing how special I truly am, according to my own opinion. But scripture reminds me that I shouldn’t place my trust in others’ opinions of myself and, instead, live each day in accordance with my own opinion of myself and, moreso, knowing that God’s love and acceptance of me is sufficient.
- He will never forsake me.
- He loves me enough to die for me.
- His love is never-ending, no matter how much I mess up.
I suppose it’s human nature to want acceptance from our peers. And I suppose that it’s healthy to do so. What I need to be aware of is whether or not I’m placing others’ opinions of me above God’s opinion of me. I am a warm and wonderful child of God, as are you. Each of us was created in His image. God loves His children; you, me and everybody else. If I can carry this thought with me the rest of today and every day, I’ll be able to see the world through new eyes, knowing that I am His child.
- I am special in God’s eyes.
- You are special in God’s eyes.
- And isn’t that enough?
